Kimberly Potterf, Owner and Lead Photographer
Thanks for taking the time to get to know a bit more about me and my business. It’s been about twelve years since I left my graphic design job in the corporate world to pursue this adventure as both an artist and small business owner – and I’ve never looked back! A lot has changed in that time, but after hundreds of weddings and portrait sessions, I can say with sincerity that I still love what I do. I recognize that this is truly a gift in itself and I’m thankful for it every day. I’ve been told I wear my heart on my sleeve – guilty as charged. I do however also pour a whole lot of that love into my work, but most importantly, the people behind the work. It’s both an honor and responsibility to be trusted with documenting people’s lives and I don’t take it lightly.
I believe that creating great images begins with allowing authentic moments to happen. When it comes to photographing events such as weddings that are inherently filled with a lot of emotion, the behind-the-scenes planning and preparation leading up to the big day can play a big role in allowing you to be more present in those once-in-a-lifetime moments when they happen. Artistically, I do enjoy capturing all “pretty stuff” like your portraits and carefully styled details, but I want to go so much deeper than that and capture the moments, the people, and the connection.
Open and responsive communication, managing timelines and personalities, fickle weather, and technical expertise are all part of creating a great experience – and an incredible collection of images for each of my clients.
Timeless over trendy, yet fresh and modern. I want to capture the way you feel, not just the way you look. Sometimes that is done best with natural light, and other times that requires a more dynamic lighting set-up. I want your images to reflect you and the vibe of your day. So whether it’s a barn, ballroom, brewery, flower field, or your own home, you can always expect thoughtfully composed, expertly lit, natural-looking images that will stand the test of time.
My life beyond the lens
My family and friends are my world. My incredibly talented (and very patient) husband Mike and I live in a little house in the Short North with our sweet pup Nellie. We’ve been hard at work renovating this house into our dream home for the better part of three years, but this DIY process has taught us so much and we’re are finally in the home stretch! He loves to cook and I love to host, so we look forward to many evenings huddled around a bonfire together with our closest friends and family (and Nellie at our feet of course), just being content in shared laughter, conversation, and great food.
Traveling has also been one of my greatest joys and educators in life. I’ve been fortunate to see a lot of the world, and I credit these experiences with shaping how I’ve learned to see things as an artist. My favorite travel experiences so far include sailing through the Galapagos Islands with old college friends (forever a Bobcat! OU, O-Yeah!), backpacking through Yosemite, road tripping along the PCH, and honeymooning in Spain!
Still on my travel bucket list: Tanzania, Costa Rica, and Iceland!
