What a perfect night! I am so excited to finally share this fun creative collaboration with Ericka Greene Events and our awesome couple, Marc and Joe.
While scouting potential locations together throughout the Short North in Columbus (where we both happen to live), we agreed that our only concept was to simply celebrate a love story in the city where it all began. After such a challenging year in the wedding and events industry, we were ready for an opportunity to be creative, experiment a bit, and just have fun! “Celebrating love and joy” seems like a valid enough reason to me! And with that, Ericka already had the perfect couple in mind that would be a great fit for our shoot.
In many ways, Marc and Joe provided the story themselves. They also both have tons of personal style and love a good night on the town!
The evening began like so many for these two – with lots of laughter! As we sorted through some wardrobe options, Ericka brought out the modern floral accessories she designed and WOWZA! These are definitely statement pieces and really became the anchor to the whole look. The combination of hellebores, ranunculus, waxflower, and various types of greenery created a lovely pocket-square alternative for Marc and adorned Joe’s lapel perfectly. The spring flowers in shades of purple accented the navy attire and Marc’s floral print shirt beautifully.
This image is probably one of my favorite detail shots as it really highlights these amazing floral pieces and the overall look we put together.
We headed out to a nearby rooftop and it wasn’t long before the sun began to set and the champagne was popped.
Probably my favorite image from the whole shoot as Marc and Joe look so effortless and relaxed – and that sunset glow! The colors and quality of the light were changing by the second and I couldn’t get enough of it!
I love that I can still hear Joe’s laugh when I see this image! Some things you simply can’t script – which is why I almost always prefer to work with real couples so that genuine emotion and energy shine through.
When the sun finally set, we got the most beautiful deep blue twilight sky too! Twilight can be an epic time to shoot – especially in the city with all of the lights and buildings.
Ericka set up a cozy little spot with some more gorgeous florals and candles.
While we loved our little spot on the rooftop, we also knew that we wanted to try to capture some night shots on nearby High Street – the Short North’s main drag. So we relaxed the look a bit and headed a couple blocks over to see what we could capture under the streetlights and the Short North’s signature arches. Passersby congratulated Marc and Joe – a testament to how joyful their relationship is and a reminder to celebrate life’s moments – big and small.
These fellas were serving up some lewks on High Street!
We were having so much fun that the creativity and fun continued into the evening back at Ericka’s home with candles, more flowers, a splash of bourbon, and a few moments of intimacy. The candles and dim lighting provided a cozy atmosphere that was the perfect way to end a perfect evening.
A huge thank you to Marc and Joe for being AMAZING models and so much fun to style and photograph. Needless to say it was a lovely night filled with new and old memories – for the couple and the creative team. 10/10 would definitely do this again!
