What a perfect spring day for a wedding in Columbus, Ohio! Kristen and Phil tied the knot at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in historic Victorian Village followed by an awesome reception at the Walter Commons at St. Charles Preparatory just east of downtown Columbus.
Everything about their style was right up my alley from Kristen’s understated yet stunning gown, the loose, lush boho vibe to the florals, and the simple and unique bridesmaids’ outfits (skirts from Target!) But above all, this was just a really FUN group to be around all day.
I loved the color palette of earthy green and blush. The pleated skirts were unique and so cute!
Marialynn Floral did such a wonderful job with the bouquets. I think protea (the big spiky bloom in the middle) might be one of my new favorite flowers. It’s a bit unexpected but works so perfectly as accents in these lush bouquets.
St. Francis looks quaint and unassuming from the outside. It’s actually one of my favorite churches to shoot in. Once inside though, the domed ceiling and stained glass windows feel so grand.
The bride and her dad are all smiles as they get ready to walk down the aisle!
It’s go time!
The groom is ready to see his bride!
Congrats to the newly wedded couple!
The moment when newly married couples exit the ceremony space is always one of my favorites to capture. There is so much excitement and joy on the many faces of friends and family there to celebrate with them.
Cheers! Let the games begin! When you have a huge bridal party like this, booking a limo or party bus is a great idea. Onto Goodale Park and then a stop at one of their favorite local spots, OddFellows Liquor Bar.
This bride and her troupe definitely made my job easy!
This dress was epic! A simple silhouette of gorgeous fabric with just a touch of lace and a stunning low back. It was absolutely perfect on Kristen!
Next stop, local watering hole OddFellows Liquor Bar!
There’s something nostalgic feeling about this photo that I love so much. Completely unposed but I love the light, shadows and relaxed nature of it.
The groom and his mama! I love family photos that are relaxed, REAL and happy.
The decor was so pretty! I really loved the simple centerpieces – again with that protea!
Happiness is spending the rest of your life with your best friend!
The event space at Walter Commons allows a variety of vantage points for creating great photographs. This is one of the reasons why I always prefer to work with a second photographer – I’d hate having to choose between angles. Sometimes there’s just not enough time to capture both really well with one photographer.
Receptions are often my favorite part of the day to photograph. Everyone is generally more relaxed and just ready to party! I may be biased but I absolutely love images like this simple one below. A completely unprompted, un-styled, genuine moment of connection between the two of them – likely sharing a laugh during one of the toasts. Then I imagine a photo like this of my own parents when they got married back in 1970 and I love it even more.
The father-daughter moment is so cute! I’m really close with both of my parents, so moments like these get me every time!
This is about when the party got a little nutty – in the best way! The deejay did a great job keeping the dance floor packed!
Happy *almost* one-year anniversary to this super fun and laid back couple, Phil and Kristen!
